Beginning the path to Adoption

Hey everyone! We have decided to begin cataloging our journey through this crazy thing called Adoption so we might as well start from the beginning! As most of you already know, Anthony and I have been trying, for some time now, to begin our family. You may also know that we have been interested in International Adoption since before we were married. Well, we have finally begun the process to Adopt through Vietnam! We are following in the footsteps of Anthony's parents and using Holt International Children's Services to move us through the process. We will be updating this Blog regularly as we have news to report! Soooo...check here for the latest and greatest on "The Road to Bring Home 'Baby D'"!!!

This is such an exciting time for us! We can't wait for time to go by...we want to bring our little one home to his/her "forever" home!

In short, the process works like this: (time frames for each step vary)

1. Submit initial Application
2. Complete Home Study
3. Begin the immigration/visa paperwork
4. Wait for referral of Child (this is when we will find out if we are having a boy or girl as well as the age of our child)
5. Get/accept referral of Child
6. Complete Dossier and submit to US Gov't and Ministry of Justice in Vietnam for approval and wait for travel instructions
7. Travel to Vietnam for 2-3 weeks to finalize Adoption
8. Bring home our new baby and complete Post Adoption Process

Our Status:
We submitted our application to Holt International Children's Services for review on 12/27/2006. Shortly after we started working with Holt to begin our Home Study. We are currently getting ready for our Home Visits (the final part of our Home Study) with our Social Worker. We are both a little nervous about the whole "visit thing"...this whole thing is moving so quickly right now...we are just trying to make sure that everything is perfect. There seems to be soooooo much to do! It is hard not to think too far into the future...
